It was at home and in the cup, but if we’re going to talk cricket score results how about the 8-4 against Torquay?
That was an amazing game
Maybe a message saying
Walsall FC - completed it mate.
Would save you time ?
Yes I was at Oxford in the sixties. We were late going in and we were already 2 down. Kirby scored and we thought great but a bit like today almost every time Oxford attacked they scored !! I seem to remember we hit the post a few times too…I went to another match there later and we lost 4-1. That wasn’t a great day either
I’m gooin back on holiday if that’s what we do when i’m away, see ya in May
Hope not Westie, that’s the last thing we need right now, we know what that award usually means…
Does anyone have a link for Sadler’s radio interview?
53:45 onwards. the full clip has not been uploaded yet, guess it’ll go up on the WM BBC sounds website tomorrow
This season I’ve sat through some absolutely horrible matches , Accrington, Sutton and Barrow spring to mind but there have also been some great ones too and this upturn in results and performances has been so pleasing to watch.
I sat there today thinking bloody hell all those poor games and these are the days that make you realise why you bother travelling and sitting in a cold football ground.
We were magnificent today, everyone played their part.
We’ve ended 2023 on a high and started 2024 in the same way.
What an incredible turnaround since the start of December. At that point we were facing Notts County, Crewe, Wrexham and others and I was dreading how the table would look come January.
Some players who have consistently played badly are now flying. The Priest coming back has helped certainly but the form of others (e.g. Comley) has been great. Hutch can blow hot and cold as we have seen but when he is on form he is superb as he was today.
Their goal was an awful goal to give away and up to the point when we equalised we were looking very ordinary. However they folded when DJT scored and from then we were ruthless. The cross from Hutch for our last goal was inch perfect.
Overall a fantastic way to start the year but we must continue picking up 3 points from games now that we have found a new level. Hopefully not too much tinkering from Sadler at the moment with the team.
UP THE SADDLERS
Been out most of the day, enjoying a Winter break. Sat here enjoying a decent Zinfandel after dinner, thinking what a great day that was! So impressed with Sadler’s perseverance, variations, and general demeanour. Well done all the lads. Great to see a team firing on all cylinders, and great to see a united squad.
Strange one with Earing , looks like he’s gained a yard Of pace.
Maybe something they worked on in his rehab, either way it’s good news for us.
As someone who’s been on that fence for most of his tenure ,I’d agree. One thing I would say is that even if this represents the corner being turned at last, progress in the next few months probably won’t be linear. I’m still expecting poor performances when nothing gels, and some winless streaks.
I said at the start of the season I wanted to see some progression and end the season confident we had the makings of a promotion-challenging squad for next. A month ago I couldn’t see where that was coming from. My main reason for briefly coming down off the fence against Sadler was that I just couldn’t see what he was trying to achieve. At the moment, that couldn’t be clearer. And even if that becomes less clear at times before May, he’s now got a lot of credit in the bank with me.
As with some other things in life: it’s not the size of it, it’s what you do with it!
I never wanted Sadler to be sacked as I couldn’t see what it would achieve. I’ve always thought that we have a decent squad this season but we had been unfortunate with injuries. We lost the Priest for a large part of the early season and also had no Comley or Earing. Those three players have made a real difference. On current form, we are one of the best teams in the division. Let’s get into the top 7 and stay there. Fair play to Mat and the coaching team for sticking with the plan.
Fantastic result, nice to see us capitalising on the results of December.
What I would say though is to not get too excited - Grimsby, especially their defence, looked like they’d had a heavy night out on the town the way they defended. So whilst we showing good killer instinct, it has to be seen in the light of the defending we were up against.
I just hope we can finally push on from here, it’s been 5 years of misery bobbing around between 14th and 19th in League 2. Just give us a push for the play offs please
We’ve played lots of teams with defenders like that and never looked like scoring, we’ve scored 11 goals in 3 games now so I’d say that there is light at the end of a very long tunnel.
I must say having been at Blundell Park yesterday, it was incredibly heart-warming to look around and observe the smiling and jubilant faces of the other 214 Walsall fans throughout that second half. It was verging on delirium towards the end within that stand. Almost makes the long bouts of suffering and mediocrity worthwhile.
You genuinely can’t put a price or value on performances like that and the feeling that it evokes. I couldn’t have been happier to drive back three hours in the rain on my own. We have been so used to being the nail at times in recent years so it was nice for us to be the hammer for a change.
Sacked, such a shame.
