Minimal interest as ever in this…however I did have a more meagre tenner on once I saw there were 7 minutes added on! Chelsea kids tired it seemed and loads of “Walsall dangerous attacks” so thought it was worth it although it does seem like pocket money compared to what some have won tonight!
We’re all clubbing together then for the freehold yes…
Cashed out on a £1 bet four game acca I had placed at half time when we got to Desmond. Netted me £33 . Not as much as some on here, but more pleased with the confidence boost it should give the lads. Even if it was Chelsea under 8s
I went and in the end it was a very enjoyable evening.Chelsea started brilliantly and looked a classy outfit but towards HT the game began to turn as the youth of the opposition began to show. The second half was very much a case of men against boys and then we just about made it.
Sad to see CCM injured…looked like a knee problem to me…hope its not too serious as he has had a promising few weeks.
Clarke played well at LB and his versatility is certainly a plus.
MacDonald is conundrum…at times brilliant but the final pass or cross is often poor but a good goal.
Anyway more money in the kitty and hopefully a good boost to confidence.
I am going to have to get myself interested in this competition. We are getting nearer to Wembley. Oh the crowd. When it is that low, Just do not announce it.
One other point…Gaffney had a goal disallowed. I felt it was a good goal but my friend and neighbour thought there was a foul. It was shame…could have done his confidence some good.
Back to that, it looked like two Chelsea players collided, one needed physio attention later, but I suppose referee seen some contact between Gaffney and someone from them, so he whistled. No harm done, it helped team to feel some injustice needs to be corrected.
Just got in from the game , fair play to them , embarrassing first 20 minutes but stuck at it and deserved win in the end .
Gaffney as we know lacks any quality but fair dues to him he worked hard as did Lavery.
McDonald was excellent second half, and Kinsella improved when Hardy and Bates came on to be honest they aren’t going to be playing against the likes of Gilmour every week but they stuck at it and eventually got on top of their midfield . Defensively we looked ok Facey is definitely our best RB and Kory got better as the game went on Clarke and Scarr were pretty solid .
Guthrie and Holden were poor , surely Guthrie should be fitter than he is by now he was blowing out of his a_ _ _e .
And Holden just looked completely devoid of any Confidence caused by his being played out of position and really struggling to use his right foot , I know you see lots of players playing off the opposite foot but to do that your favourite foot needs to be excellent and unfortunately his left foot is not brilliant and basically he can’t use his right at all .
But overall a definite positive move in the right direction .
If we can get a draw on Saturday that will give DC something to work on in the upcoming tough looking games .
And of course financially its also a plus .
Overall a good night ,pity there wasn’t a few more there really don’t get the apathy towards the competition .
Because its a glorified reserve team competition played purely for the benefit of the greed league. They have taken a perfectly good competition, a credible route to Wembley for lower league teams, and changed the format purely because thats what the Premier League wanted. Forget what the supporters of 72 league clubs want, if those at the top want it, its happening.
It’s a competition that completely typifies everything that is wrong with a sport now governed by oil money. Hope that answers your question.
Not really answered anything , it’s a competition which gives clubs like ours a glimmer of hope .
Think you should see it for what it is , not what you would like it to be .
We were much better in the 2nd half - but might have been because by then it was way past bedtime for most of their players! Some of them didn’t look old enough to be ball boys …
■■■■■ sake. This is way way worse than the 20K we get for winning. Probably doesn’t even cover his wages for the time he’ll be out of the injury is a fracture.
Blimey. There was a nice little vibe going last night. For once Walsall FC was making its fans happy.
Then I read about the CCM’s injury which put a dampener on things.
Then watching these highlights I see him limping round the pitch. It looked obvious he was in distress so I wonder why we were asking him to effectively walk it off. He should have been on a stretcher.
But strangely, despite it being within a run of home games, tonight’s attendance was the largest we’ve had so far for the competition. I don’t know whether it was because it was the second round or whether it was because it was Chelsea.
The really sad thing is that our crowds in this competition and the FA Cup are converging. Cup football seems to be losing its attraction which for a club like us is sad but another manifestation of the influence of the power of the Premier League, another racket that used the “for the good of the national team” as camouflage for something far more nefarious.
I’d go to Wembley if we got there. As Funk says, it is a glorified reserve team competition and this wouldn’t be the first time I’d watched us in a reserve/youth team final. The reason I don’t go to games in this competition isn’t because I’m boycotting it is because like reserve team games I value them less than I did.
In terms of morality, I struggle more with the hundred or so quid I’ve given MK Dons over the years than I would attending this competition.
