New 3 year deal for Sadler
Incredible
Interesting announcement
He was rewarded for at best mediocrity the end of last season when he was very lucky to keep his job.
Why the need right now to improve it ? He has us doing what we should be. Challenging for promotion.
Here fishy, fishy
Do you ever say anything postive?
Reading your posts brings me down!
Grounded in reality ā¦
Early bite⦠groundbait working well
Great move. Had my doubts initially and last season, but this season has been one of the best in quite a while.
Should put to bed any worries between now and the end of the season regarding losing a manager, and should mean we would get improved compensation if we were to lose Sadler in the summer.
Not saying donāt give him it, but maybe wait till the job is done ? Heās under contract at the end of the day.
It is fairly clear to me. He is being looked at by other Clubs. Our owners decided it was in the best interests of the club to hang on to him. I think that is a good decision. It makes me think that they will do the same for our key players unless we get stupid bids .
Letās hope heās not inserted a certain clause like a certain Dean Smith didā¦
Smith was only given a rolling contract under a owner that reduced his budget massively.
I imagine he was offered a pay rise somewhere like Devon, perhapsā¦and has told the club he wants a pay rise and an exit clause for Championship clubsā¦
Sadler has benifitted in the area where the majority of our previous managers suffered.
He has support from the board room, and benefits from a positive infrastructure around the club that has been built by savvy operators with a fresh mindset
I have often felt sorry for Walsall managers over the years and was always very hesitant to call for their heads given that the majority of the time they were operating under crippling restraints and penny pinching in nearly every aspect of the football club.
Sadler has guided us to a position where none of us would have dared dream back in August. At the end of the day, itās a results business and absolutely nobody can argue with where we find ourselves and the performance of the club as a whole.
Well done Matt. Well done Trivela. Its been a cracking season and long may it continue
Mat Sadler has earned this new contract and itās brilliant news for everyone.
His man management has not only given us the best team in the league but he along with Trivela have slowly but surely turned the ship around and set it on a journey to much happier times.
January has been a time when the wheels have come off over the last few years but this season feels very different.
This new contract is doubly important because he has the squad playing for him and they will be more likely want to stay.
I agree, but it hasnāt even been slowly and surely.
Our progress in all areas has been beyond what we could have hoped for in such a short time.
Excellent news.
How is a ārolling contractā any different to any other contract? Neither he nor we were under obligation to accept or continue any extension. Smith probably negotiated more security in to his deal, like I imagine Sadler has.
In fairness to Bonser, this is not true, we know this from the accounts. Our operating charges were as follows:
2013/14 - £5.2m
2014/15 - £5.5m
2015/16 - £6.0m
Ah, so you were referring to a period 3 years before he left! Bit harsh of Smith to hold a grudge that long!
Ok thatās a bit of business done now letās do some more and get a couple of midfielders and at least another attacking option through the door whilst extending contracts to Jellis, Williams, Barrett, Weir, Allen etc.
