Shrewsbury (H) FL Trophy Tuesday 13 Nov 7pm

Don’t know why they don’t send him over to the Drogs on loan be a step up from Rushall and get a partnership with DJT

By my reckoning that’s £65k we’ll have earned from this competition plus share of gate receipts (not to be forgotten given Blues attendance).

I really hope we’re building up a bit of a fighting fund to retain some of our young talent. Last night demonstrated that at last we have some real depth in our squad. We are genuine contenders. Following nine seasons of decline, stagnation and pretty torpid football we have some genuine forward momentum. I really hope we don’t give parts of that up lightly in January.

I think after keeping a clean sheet v Salop he deserves a run in the first team but don’t know what we have agreed with Stoke on number of appearances for Simkin. I rate him higher than Simkin and not afraid to do the dirty work when needed. Reminiscent of a young Wacka. Anyone know how long he is under contract or if we have an option for another year if his contract is up at the end of this term

1 year only according to this…

Certainly deserves another year from what I have seen.

We were so good last night, and this was with 10 changes. I mean when we made our subs and brought on who you’d call regulars it was like damn we got a strong squad.

Sadler has got a real headache here (of the positive variety). Any of up to 20 players is worthy of a first team spot
I guess a real test of his credentials - keeping results and performances at a high level whilst satisfying all the players

Trouble is Hornby might not want the odd first team game and want first team football and he’ll move on at his own accord.

10 changes from Saturday last night - would have been 11 but for international call-ups, injuries, and out-on-loans. The only one I thought didn’t look up to the task was RAM - and to be fair he was played out of his normal position.

We weren’t as fluid as usual - but first time the XI had played together as a team and up against an almost first team strength L1 side (albeit only 2 places above us in the pyramid ) in front of a smaller and less vocal crowd in a Mickey Mouse competition in which the result was of interest regarding home advantage in just our next game. Second half we were much better and once the subs came on (only replacing half the outfield players) we looked several classes above Shrewsbury.

I agree with @bags10 that I thought Hall and Browne were the standouts, possibly even more than MotM Weir; wouldn’t be unhappy with any of them being given a start. And Taylor Allen showed that we do have decent cover for Liam Gordon if Weir replaced him at LCB.

There will be games where we come unstuck (hopefully not as bad as the second half against Fleetwood), but we do have the strength in depth that these should only be minor one-off glitches rather than us getting into our usual bad runs.

When is the draw?

I thought we were excellent in the 2nd half, I’m happy that Cleary and Hall got their first goals for the club.
The third goal was just sublime, a wonderful cross from Allen for Lowe’s diving header into the net.
Lowe makes such a difference to our game, there’s a buzz around the place when he’s in the team whether as a starter or coming on as a sub he just creates a reaction from the crowd I haven’t seen for a long time.
I don’t really have an interest in this competition, but we’re playing so well I just enjoy watching us play.

Potentially end of next week. Still one match left to play on 19/11. So maybe 21/11- 22/11 the draw

Remember when the headache was osei- yaw or a traffic cone. Still say that traffic cone was under used

We started with an almost reserve team last night and were better than a league one side.
The second half was a no contest as Shrewsbury were completely out of their depth against a very impressive Walsall side.

Yea definitely

We could easily split our squad and create two competitive teams for this league which just shows of far we have come under Trivela. Crazy to think not so long ago fans seething because the budget had been reduced and we had no strikers. :joy:

This Shrewsbury fan had similar thoughts… so unfair.

Take Lowe out this team and still might be the case .he’s bought to this team the one commodity “goals” that was missing and the required wins & points to be where we are . Yes the team as a whole and performance is vastly improved .Everyone playing a role ,the rightwing back position particularly.was a huge weakness last season which was exploited by opposition teams .fingers crossed we keep Lowe in January .i think personally the commitments we give to the parent clubs on young players like Simkin and Lowe on game time and development when we loan them ,these clubs should hopefully honour the full loan periods if at all possible.

At least they were nice enough to refer to us as ‘Travellers’, not ‘Gypos’.
Especially as ‘Travellers in a biscuit tin’ doesn’t scan easily and lacks punch.

I thought Weir was outstanding.
It must be difficult for him as he doesn’t even get on the bench.
